n Walking Tours of Tuzigoot and Tavasci Marsh. The final workshop is Exploring Science in Our National Parks series co-sponsored by the National Parks Service. Join John Schroeder, Tuzigoot and Montezuma Castle National Monument’s park archaeologist for A Walking Tour of Tuzigoot National Monument Through the Eyes of an Archeologist on Saturday, May 3, at 9 a.m. Enjoy visits with the park’s mason, Stefan Sloper, as he works to repair, restore and re-build the ancient foundations and walls of Tuzigoot. Mid-morning take another trek with park biologist Dennis Casper to Tavasci Marsh, the monument’s newest land acquisition. Learn about the system of inventory and monitoring for the Tavasci Marsh Restoration and Management project. A park pass or the $5 entrance fee is required. Bring a sack lunch and meet at the Tuzigoot National Monument Visitor’s Center. For more information, call 649-5550.
n Finding the Crash Site of William Andrews Clark III during the Wednesday, May 7, Verde Valley Stories learning group of OLLI, Join members of OLLI as they listen to the fascinating tale of the 1932 Clarkdale plane crash of William Andrews Clark III. You will meet those who participated in the search.
Clark was the son of Sen. Clark, owner of the United Verde Copper Company, the copper smelter and the town of Clarkdale. Over time, the exact location of the crash faded from memory until it was rediscovered by Jess Valdez, Clarkdale resident, and Jim Byrkit, a Flagstaff historian.
