Did you ever square dance? Change your partner. Dosey Doe. I used to love square dancing. In summer camp the girls camp and boys camp would be bussed to a big barn for square dancing. If there was someone you liked, you would be certain to get to link arms, smile and look into each others’ eyes.

We’ve all heard the saying, “the only thing that’s constant is change.” So when it shows up, why are we surprised? We travel back in time to visit our old neighborhood. Boy has it changed. When I did that six years ago, I missed seeing all the kids that I grew up with. We’re living all over the world now.

My childhood family lived at the end of a long street. The first part of the street was what we called the old houses; with character and lots of trees. I still like old homes. Then the street became new houses. Literally brand new.

There were little trees, just planted. I loved that neighborhood because every new home, and there were more than 20, had kids for my brothers and I to play with. We lived at the dead end where the games we played were right in our circle.

My male friend was Jay, with the big fenced back yard two doors away and a tree house. I had a half crush. Later, Johnny became my boyfriend. Stephanie was my best friend. We’d be driven to the big store to walk around and have a soda. There were no malls then. 

Since childhood I hadn’t seen her until 2 years ago. Facebook enabled us to talk and notice we would both be in LA the same week. What a treat to spend a bit of time her again.

My boyfriend and I are moving into a house together this week, and the inevitable is occurring. Lots of packing, throwing things away, donations to Goodwill and the Humane Society. Finding things too. Woo hoo!

Change is generally a move forward in life, right? Sometimes it doesn’t look that way; but if you look closer or back on it, you will always see it helped us move forward ultimately. Even the ones you may still hold disdain for. Please, look back and see why you called it forth in your life. How did you grow yourself through it? Did it show you your own strength, give you reason to call forth your own power or self-esteem? If you hold on to anger or hatred, you won’t change or lighten your load.

This house has so many of the things I’ve wanted. In fact my boyfriend has so many of the traits that I’ve wanted. Who knew? We always say focus on what you want. I’m living proof it comes. Are you? If not, notice what your thoughts are!

I’ve also changed myself. Not only shedding ,so far, 32 pounds, but also working on fine-tuning other worn-out traits of mine. Him, too. That’s what having a mate does. We must work on ourselves. Notice that?

I put in a change of address, change with all the utility companies, we’ll be changing neighbors, you name it. We won’t have to share a bathroom in the morning, getting ready for work. The dog will have her own fenced yard.

Hiring carpet cleaners, window cleaners and housekeepers to put the previous home in tip-top shape has added to the long to-do list, which includes so many more details for change. Hey if you’ve ever changed your home location, you know, don’t you? Everything has a silver lining. See how much I can handle and still smile, laugh and enjoy being patient and kind?

Hello new neighbors. Hope we can play together in the circle our houses surround. Just like my childhood circle. My flight lands very soon. I might be jet lagged, though the destination is just around the corner!  I expect smooth sailing. See you soon with an open heart.
