Ho Ho Holy Roly Poly in the Souly3 min read

Here it is.  The Holy Days are upon us. Ho Ho Holy. How to keep from becoming roly poly? Let us pray from our soul. Or will we prey. The food is not for preying upon. Or is it? Is the better thought, let us not stalk the candy; let us instead feed upon the stalks of celery?

I was surprised to see that this year Sedona has put out large imitation candies at the roundabouts. I don’t remember seeing those in previous years. Were they there? They look so sweet.

Really, is this holy season about the food and sweets? Have we forgotten the spiritual meaning of christed (meaning of God, of any faith) consciousness?

Do the kids come or go home for the food and presents? What about the presence of love we want to return to; in the bosom or womb of that connected feeling to significant others. The real gift.

That is naturally wholesome sustenance and nourishment. People who carry extra weight will often express that without sufficient feelings of being loved, food  surely tastes very fulfilling to their heart. And the more the merrier.

Now on the other hand, if we take both bits of information and put them together like chocolate and peanut butter, we may have something greater than each individually.

Some say the way to the heart is through the stomach. Here’s a powerful one-two punch (as in spiked punch). Make the great comfort food, and give hugs for appetizers, snacks, dessert and party favors.

Have we become a social media society? The only way we know to be social any longer seems impersonal. Texting, facebook, twitter, skype, etc? Have we forgotten the expanded heart feeling we get from an actual handwritten communication or physical touch?

Instead of kissing the screen, are we able to actually kiss lips? Are we covering our fear of intimacy with internet intimacy? No one has to experience each others’ vulnerabilities in being close, if we are pretending to be Brad and Angelina.

Letting our real selves be exposed is what can bring love to our lives. We may be creating superficial, fantasy lives and living lies. Most of all, we’re missing out on true hugs and kisses, true experiences of the most ultimate, intimate and fulfilling feelings.

Make that commitment to return home for the holy days. First return home to yourself in being authentic. Realize your hunger for real people.

Maybe mom was not a hugger or very empowering to you and your siblings, but you can show the way. Hug her till she sparkles so much inside that she becomes inspired to partake, herself. Maybe she was treated coldly and needed desperately to be hugged, herself.

Instead of starving ourselves every day to be thin and outwardly appealing, eat those comfort foods at gatherings surrounded by important people to us, and notice how fulfilling food can be. It can actually make us feel so darn good, that we want to reach out and connect with warmth. Warm tummy, warm heart?

Between food love and human love, we may come out the other side of the holy days feeling more nourished than ever before. Those extra pounds will come off within a few days, but you will be born again.

Isn’t that what holy days are for? How sweet it is.

Virtual kisses and hugs. Until we virtually meet and hug it out!
