Liza said there’d be days like this.

Sedona Red Rock High School freshman Liza Westervelt has dismantled some teams in her pre-Scorpions days by such scores as 49-4, but she never thought it would happen Tuesday, Jan. 27, at North Pointe Preparatory Academy.

“At Big Park, all of our games we won pretty much like that,” said Westervelt, a shooting guard who was the third-leading scorer in a slightly less lopsided blowout Saturday, Jan. 24, of Hopi High School. “We would usually let them score a couple of points — ‘phantom defense’ is what we called it.”

A No. 21 seed in the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s Division III power rankings going into their game Thursday, Jan. 29, at Northland Prep, the Scorpions [11-7] kicked off a stretch of four games in five days with the 45-point beatdown of the winless Falcons.
