Turquoise Tortoise celebrates summer

Celebration of Summer 1, held throughout July at Turquoise Tortoise, a Bryant Nagel gallery, is a gallery-wide salute to the American Indian and Southwest artists who keep this 47-year-old gallery the destination fine art gallery it’s become in Northern Arizona.

Guests can enjoy wine and appetizers at a First Friday reception July 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Showcased are close to 50 fine artists and jewelers working in a variety of media. Highlights include a ceremonial warshirt reproduction by Chuck “Winter Heart” Reddick [1949-2011], which is based on an 1870s Lakota shirt held at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of the American Indian and is constructed of traditional materials with meticulous traditional stitching techniques.

Also showcased is show-stopping Southwest jewelry by Mummy’s Bundle. A wealth of traditional and contemporary pieces by top Navajo jewelers and silversmiths, as well as those with other tribal affiliations, are also featured, such as Cody Hunter, Valerie Yellowhorse, Vernon Begaye, Danny Romero, Alice and David Lister, Kenny Aguilar, Michael Horse and more. Also featured are prominent painters, sculptors and glass workers.
